Like any natural wood product, such as decks and wood panel sidings, constant exposure to the elements will require occasional maintenance to combat the effects of sunlight and weather.
When ordering any of wood structure we can professionally paint or stain to save you time or you may specify untreated wood so that you may apply your own treatments. Our wood treatment will provide durable protection, but will not accept additional paint or stains. If you apply your own stain on untreated wood or choose the natural look, we have found that two or three coats of UV polyurethane sealant will provide sufficient protection in most regions. You will not need to apply polyurethane coating if you use a latex based paint. |
If you choose not to apply stain, paint, or polyethylene coatings to the wood, it will darken and eventually turn the color of old silver (white with darker brown highlights). Depending on local weather conditions this change may take weeks to months. Some customers prefer this weathered look. Regardless of treatment there is little change in structural integrity except after many years.
No matter what treatment you choose, we recommend power washing the entire structure with a pressurized hose at least once a year to remove soil and mildew buildup when needed. This is especially true when humid conditions prevail locally. We thank you for your interest and being an informed consumer. |
